Thoughts on Remote Presence and the Texai

First of all - I wanted to thank Nate Westheimer and Brandon Diamond for allowing me to present at the NY Tech Meetup last week. To say it was a sudden surprise is an understatement since the original plan was to show a video of the Texai in action, rather than a live demonstration. For your info, the Texai is described at the Willow Garage website and will have some announcements in the near future. For initial discussions, feel free to watch the montage of the Texai.

For clarification sake, when you see me piloting the Texai, I am dialing in from my apartment in New York City to the office in Menlo Park, CA. When Dallas is dialing in to the office, he is dialing in from Seymour, Indiana.

Texas Alpha Robot - Report #3

Last weekend, Dallas and Curt worked insanely into the night with our friends at Function and had a late-night delivery of the first 20 Texai into the office. As you can see on the homepage of Willow Garage, they were all sitting there - waiting for the chargers and such.

As you can see in this thread of photos, the Texai Team did an excellent job building them out. We had a timeframe of 3 months, and delivered the final seven four days later. One thing that was funny was when we delivered the first 20 - Dallas and Curt had worked so late in the night that they decided to do some fun photos that could be the Jobs/Woz style. But, we like to think of them as Woz/Woz.
